Westin Downtown San Diego Changes Name

. October 14, 2008

APRIL 16, 2008. Taking its cue from the growing popularity of San Diego's Downtown region, The Westin Horton Plaza San Diego is celebrating its enviable, central location with the unveiling of a new name: The Westin Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego. The hotel's name change is in direct response to the growing international awareness of the city's Historic Gaslamp Quarter, which is quickly becoming known as a "destination within the destination of San Diego."

One of six Starwood Hotel properties in the downtown area, the name change to The Westin Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego will help the nearly 30 million annual travelers planning a visit to this sun drenched Southern California city easily identify the hotel's location. The property, located on Broadway Circle, opened in 1987 and was rebranded as The Westin Horton Plaza San Diego in 1997.

General Manager Doug Korn says that the name Gaslamp Quarter is becoming synonymous with a downtown San Diego experience. "The name change is a union of two great brands so guests immediately know the benefits of a visit here," explains Korn. "Westin has done an incredible job building an internationally recognized lifestyle brand that reflects what guests will experience inside the hotel. The Gaslamp Quarter -- with its entertainment, restaurants and retail -- has become an icon within the destination and reflects the experience that guests will have outside of the hotel."

In fact, the last ten-year Economic Impact study done for San Diego showed visitors to the Gaslamp increased by 400%.

"We are seeing an increasing number of businesses connecting to the Gaslamp Quarter's internationally recognized brand," said Gaslamp Quarter Association Senior Marketing Manager Dan Flores. "Guests of The Westin Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego will discover the sophisticated urban flavor of the Gaslamp which is part of San Diego's authentic downtown experience."

The Westin Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego, whose 450 guest rooms fuse soothing color palettes and sleek furnishings with striking city and bay views, provides a stylish, smart choice for travelers with its family- friendly, pet-friendly, business-friendly philosophy.
