Mills House Charleston Hosts Delegation From Italy

. October 14, 2008

MAY 29, 2008. The Mills House Hotel, an historic Charleston, SC lodging, was proud to host Massimo Brunini, the mayor of Spoleto, Italy, as well as his accompanying delegation this past week during an official visit in celebration of Charleston's annual Spoleto Festival USA. This is the second visit to Charleston and The Mills House for Mayor Brunini in as many months.

The mayor first came in late March to oversee and promote the collaboration between the Spoleto Festival USA and the Festival of Two Worlds, the Italian inspiration for Charleston's yearly event. Both festivals occur during the summer months and celebrate primarily musical theatre including opera, ballet, and modern dance. The Spoleto Festival USA also offers jazz concerts.

In March, Mayor Brunini was greeted at The Mills House Charleston Hotel with a full red carpet introduction by hotel management. Highlighting the visit, The Mills House hosted an authentic Italian dinner for 200 guests in the mayor's honor and in recognition of the partnership between Charleston and Spoleto. The kitchen staff was overseen by three chefs from Spoleto, and raves about the food rolled in for days afterwards, marking the evening as an unqualified success.

This last week, Mr. Brunini visited once again to attend the opening of the Spoleto Festival USA and sign the official sister city agreement between his town in central Italy and Charleston. Again he and his delegation were met at The Mills House Hotel with the full red carpet treatment, this time joined by current and long-time Charleston Mayor, Joseph Riley.

As one of the premier historic Charleston hotels, The Mills House was delighted to share the immense history of Charleston and South Carolina with Mayor Brunini and eagerly anticipates his next visit. The Spoleto Festival USA is ongoing and runs daily through June 8, 2008.
