ASTA Congratulates Congress on Passage of Financial Markets Rescue Bill
ALEXANDRIA, VA, October 3, 2008. In response to the House of Representatives' vote to pass the Senate-passed version of H.R. 1424, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, ASTA released the following statement:
ASTA congratulates the House of Representatives on its successful passage of legislation to address the crisis in the nation's financial markets.
In a difficult election-year climate, Congress has wisely chosen to put the needs of the nation above narrow political concerns.
This week, ASTA member agents have been calling on Congress to act swiftly in response to this growing crisis and to provide reassurance to financial markets worldwide that the federal government will not allow constraints on credit to spread unchecked. ASTA has warned that further Congressional inaction risked creating a climate in which travel industry professionals, small business owners, and entrepreneurs would face extreme difficulty in securing lines of credit, engaging in long-term planning, and growing their business.
In particular, ASTA would like to thank Senators Obama and McCain for their support for the rescue package, and to congratulate Senators Reid and McConnell, Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Hoyer, and Minority Leader Boehner for their tireless work to craft and ensure passage of a compromise bill.
