Central Resource Enhances Visitor Experience

. November 14, 2008

WILMINGTON, DE / CHADDS FORD, PA, November 13, 2008. The Brandywine Museums and Gardens Alliance, formerly the Discover Brandywine Valley Public Relations Association, has launched a revamped Web site, www.brandywinetreasures.org. The site serves as a central resource for area residents, out-of-town visitors, and travel journalists.

"The new site is designed to be the `go-to' source for up-to-date information about the region's cultural attractions," says Lora Englehart, chair of the Alliance. "It will enhance the visitor experience with a detailed calendar of events, travel links, and press information. We have exciting exhibitions and programs throughout the year, and our calendar will be a great resource for people from around the world and around the corner."

In conjunction with the Web site launch, the group has also published a new brochure, "The Beautiful Brandywine Valley: Ten extraordinary attractions...one extraordinary place." Copies are available at area attractions, hotels, train stations, visitors' centers, and Philadelphia International Airport.

Conveniently located just off Interstate 95 between Philadelphia and Baltimore amid scenic rolling hills, the Brandywine Valley is known as "ch^ateau country" for the spectacular estates the DuPont family built here as they rose to industrial prominence. Three generations of Wyeth artists have also made this area their home, and remain vitally connected to their roots here. Art museums, world-famous mansions and gardens, family-friendly attractions, and historic sites offer a rich experience for visitors.

Participating members of the Brandywine Museums and Gardens Alliance are: Brandywine River Museum, internationally known for its unparalleled collection of art by three generations of Wyeths; Delaware Art Museum, with a world-renowned collection of American art and illustration, and British Pre-Raphaelite art; Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, one of the nation's leading contemporary visual arts organizations; Delaware Historical Society, including the Delaware History Museum and the Read House & Gardens; Delaware Museum of Natural History, with an African watering hole, dinosaur skeletons, and an interactive Discovery Room; Hagley Museum and Library, a 235-acre site along the Brandywine River that houses the remains of the original DuPont gunpowder mills and family residence; Longwood Gardens, the world's premier horticultural display garden; Nemours Mansion & Gardens, Alfred I. DuPont's estate, returned to its original magnificence in a dazzling restoration; Rockwood Museum, an English country estate that features unique gardens and a Rural Gothic mansion; and Winterthur Museum & Country Estate, the ancestral home of renowned antiques collector Henry Francis du Pont, where the 235-room mansion set among 1,000 acres houses the preeminent collection of American antiques and decorative arts.
