Panama Welcomes 2009 wiith World-class Jazz Festival
DECEMBER 29, 2008. The sixth edition of the Panama Jazz Festival will feature an incredible music performance to start the year 2009. From January 12th to 17th , the tropical, multi-ethnic and sophisticated setting of Panama City will be the stage for a series of concerts and workshops that will gather some of the best world class jazz musicians. Starting the festival off will be Cuban pianist Chucho Valdez and saxophonist Wayne Shorter.
Other stars that will share the 6 dazzling days of what the organizers have come to call "Ecomusic" -a term that expresses the ecological richness and musical talents of Panama--, will be John Patitucci, Danilo P'erez --the virtuoso Panamanian pianist who founded the Jazz Festival in 2003--, Grammy Award winner, Rub'en Blades current Minister of Tourism of Panam'a; Billy Drumond, Marco Pignataro, Brian Blade, Eddie G'omez, Luba Mason, Hubert Laws and Jimmy Haslip.
True to the historical motto of its Canal, "a land divided, a world united", the festival pursues to unite people, social classes and cultures through jazz, and bring together young and old Panamanian musicians with the great stars of this highly creative music genre, all of which provides a treat for both the jazz connoisseur and the amateur listener.
This year's festival, which organizers expect will exceed the 16,000 audience from last year, will be dedicated to the Panamanian bass player and composer, the late Clarence Martin Jr.
