ASTA Paper on Secure Flight Requirements
ALEXANDRIA, VA, January 12, 2009 - Today, ASTA published the latest in a series of white papers developed to provide ASTA members with cutting-edge information on how to negotiate complex government regulations. The publication, Travel Agents' Guide to Secure Flight, educates members on what steps they need to take within their agency to meet the new Secure Flight requirements.
Within the coming months, travel agents will be required to collect travelers' full name, gender and date of birth as these elements appear on the government issued ID that their clients present at the airport.
"This paper is an excellent resource and should be any travel agent's first step in negotiating the upcoming Secure Flight program requirements. It will help members begin the process of educating themselves, co-workers, employees, and eventually their clients, about the new program ," said ASTA President and Chair Chris Russo.
Among the areas covered:
. Data collection requirements;
. TSA's ID requirements for airport security screening;
. GDS data collection formats;
. Information on dealing with client concerns; and
. Comprehensive listing of links to obtaining state-issued non-driver ID cards.
ASTA will continue to monitor the Secure Flight program requirements and make updates to this paper throughout the year. To read the paper, go to ASTA.org.
