Starwood Sponsors Professional Development Scholarships

. February 23, 2009

FEBRUARY 23, 2009 - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide recently gave a check for $10,000 to support Caribbean nationals within Starwood Caribbean destinations who wish to up-skill themselves and grow their professional development.

Line staff and junior supervisors from CHTA member properties and businesses in the Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, St. Maarten/St. Martin and Puerto Rico are invited to apply.

The sponsorship is very welcome according to Hamish Watson, CHTAEF Trustee 'the people in our industry are what makes the region successful - you don't necessarily need academics to shine within the hospitality realm. The Starwood sponsorship allows us to assist line-staff and junior supervisors in gaining expertise in their field and growing from an professional overseas experience.'

Graeme Davis, VP Starwood Operations Caribbean said 'there are excellent short courses offered by many credible institutions that will ratchet up the skills level of not only the scholarship recipients, but their teams when scholars return and share their knowledge.'

CHTAEF offers general professional development scholarships for nationals of all Caribbean countries in addition to the Starwood Scholarships. For more details visit the CHTAEF website www.caribbeanhotelandtourism.com click on EDUCATION FOUNDATION for full details, an Info-Sheet and an application form. Applicants may request info-sheet & application form by e-mailing [email protected] or asking their National Hotel Association. Closing date for receipt of applications is March 16, 2009.
