Dominik Stamm Named GM at M"ovenpick Hotel Saigon
HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, February 26, 2009 - M"ovenpick Hotels & Resorts has appointed Dominik Stamm general manager of the M"ovenpick Hotel Saigon.
Prior to joining the M"ovenpick group, Stamm had spent 9 years with Amari Hotels & Resorts. His most recent posting was general manager of the Amari Orchid Resort & Tower in Pattaya, Thailand, where he was instrumental in opening the Ocean Tower, the resort's 5-star extension. He also oversaw creation and theming of the property's hip, signature restaurant Mantra Restaurant & Bar.
Stamm, a Swiss national, holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Hospitality & Tourism Management from Bournemouth University in the U.K., and a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management from IHTTI, Neuch^atel, Switzerland.
M"ovenpick Hotels & Resorts, the Swiss chain with more than 90 hotels existing or under construction worldwide, made Ho Chi Minh City's five-star accommodation scene in July 2008, when it assumed management of the former Omni Hotel Saigon, which opened in 1994 as the city's inaugural international-standard hotel. It was immediately renamed the M"ovenpick Hotel Saigon.
In Ho Chi Minh City, M"ovenpick Hotels & Resorts inherited a storied address. During the Vietnam War, the site was headquarters of America's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), according to a 1994 South Morning China Post report. In the early '90s, Hong Kong's Marco Polo Hotel Group razed what was left of the edifice and constructed a gleaming hotel of a standard never before seen in a city taking its first baby steps toward a market economy.
Today, the seven-storey property near the international airport and not far from downtown has committed to revitalising not just the hotel itself but the greater Phu Nhuan District, an area fast becoming one of Ho Chi Minh City's most desirable locales for business travellers and holiday-makers alike.
"From an exhibition centre nearby, to all the office and retail space being developed up and down its streets, Phu Nhuan is booming," said Stamm. "With the amenities this property already offers, and those M"ovenpick Hotels & Resorts will add, we're confident this will remain a favourite stopover for any kind of visitor."
