World Travel Market Keynote Press Conferences Monday, November 14

. October 14, 2008

LONDON, UK, 2005. November 7, 2005. Over the past year, the travel and tourism industry has been battered by a number of unforeseen tragedies ranging from horrific criminal tragedies to devastating natural disasters

World Travel Market has historically opened to the media with a Forecast Forum press conference that highlights key trends or issues currently affecting the industry.

This year instead of holding a Forecast Forum at 10.00am, World Travel Market is assisting four separate press conferences and events to be held later in the day; all three events strong enough in theme to be considered for the traditional opening press conference.

The first will be an announcement at 12.30 on the World Stage of the launch of .travel, the new domain for the global travel industry.

Senior representatives of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), Pacific Asia Tourism Association (PATA) and Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) and Tralliance Corporation the New York company serving as the registry for .travel will be present at the launch.

The new internet domain is designed to help raise the profile, credibility and identity of the worldwide travel industry, particularly at a time when online consumer spending on travel products has surged upwards to more than 28 percent.

The second event is a press conference "One Year On..........and it's a very different picture". A World Travel Market co-ordinated event in association with Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Indonesia, Thailand and India and PATA the panel will take a look at how these countries have dealt with and are recovering from the horrific natural disaster of Boxing Day 2005. The press conference to be chaired by Tom Nutley, Reed Travel Exhibitions, Chairman takes place in the Conference Centre, Platinum Room 6, Level 2 at 13.30.

The third press conference on the opening day is "Deep South" which brings together New Orleans, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia to highlight the issues being faced by the city and regions following hurricane Katrina. Again this will be held in the Conference Centre, Platinum Room 6, Level 2 at 15.00.

Finally, the fourth conference at 16.00 in Platinum Suite 1, Level 3 will give a rare opportunity for media to hear and question Josef Ordjonikidse, Moscow Deputy Mayor and Grigory Antyufeev, Chairman Moscow Committee of Tourism on why numbers of visitors to the city are rocketing and plans for the future.

Four high profile press conferences reflecting the importance World Travel Market plays in providing a platform to announce key initiatives and to highlight key trends that will impact directly on all aspects of the industry from both a trade and consumer perspective.
