Dec. 5--As he hands out brochures and makes calls, Christopher Bertalantis-Scherling gets encouragement.
Bertalantis-Scherling is telling local firms about his Holiday Inn Express in Lititz, to open Wednesday.
And the property's general manager is hearing that his 69 rooms and suites will be a welcome addition to the area.
"Everybody's been very favorable. There's a lack of hotels in northern Lancaster County," said Bertalantis-Scherling.
Costing more than $3.5 million to develop, the county's third Holiday Inn Express will cater to both corporate and leisure travelers.
In these last days before the 101 Crosswinds Drive hotel debuts, Bertalantis-Scherling has been busy reaching out to a host of sources of potential guests. They include area businesses, retirement communities, funeral homes, schools and other destinations that get visited by professionals, relatives and friends.
The Holiday Inn Express, which has 30 employees, is south of Lititz Borough in Warwick Township. It sits near Route 501, next to an Isaac's restaurant.
Among the rooms will be 18 suites, one with a jacuzzi. Four rooms will be handicapped-accessible. Services will include in-room wired and wireless Internet connections and free local phone calls. The hotel will not have a restaurant, but will offer a free breakfast.
The property also will feature an indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, exercise room, guest laundry, business center (with computer and printer) and a meeting space for up to 50 people.
Room rates will be $99 to $149, depending on the type of room and the day of the week.
The new hotel joins two other hotels in Lititz -- the General Sutter Inn and the Warwick Inn & Suites.
Developer Warwick Hospitality LLC invested $3 million to construct the building, said Bertalantis-Scherling, and $425,000 to buy the land, according to courthouse records. The cost of the furnishings was not available.
