Airboarding Takes off in West Virginia

. October 14, 2008

WEST VIRGINIA, December 13, 2005. Canaan Valley Resort in West Virginia has introduced the latest trend in winter sports for the 2005/2006 ski season.

Snowboarding on inflated "air-rockets" is the newest craze in this mountainous state. The sport is more maneuverable than snow tubes, they travel much faster and by shifting body posture airboarders can come to a complete stop within a few feet.

The resort is also the first ski area in the country to offer an Airboard terrain park.

Kevin Fish, General Manager for Canaan Valley Resort, describes the sport: "Riding an Airboard is similar to riding a body-board in the ocean. The difference is that the Airboard is inflatable and has grooves on the underside that allow riders to make sharp turns and stop quickly. Unlike skiing or snowboarding, it is easy to learn within an hour of getting on it!"

Guests are required to take a one-hour lesson on the Airboard before setting off on their own to the terrain park.

While the introduction of Airboarding on Canaan's slopes may be the most unique enhancement to the resort's winter lineup, the resort has also added more features to their two ski/snowboard terrain parks and expanded the times guests can tube and night ski.
