Throgmartin to Develop $500 million St. Croix Resort
CHRISTIANSTED, USVI, December 14, 2005. Development group Throgmartin will reportedly build a resort including three hotels, a casino, time-share units and a convention center on St. Croix.
The $500 million resort, which will be the island's first in 20 years, will offer about 1,000 rooms. Gondola service will shuttle guests between different components of the project.
Construction is expected to begin in mid-2007. The resort will stretch over more than 1,300 acres on the island's mountainous west end, maintaining at least 65% green space in the heavily forested area.
Florida-based Throgmartin acquired the land last month rom a private owner. Different international resort chains will likely operate the three hotels, according to a Throgmartin spokesman.
