Wayport Reaches Landmark Agreements
Posts Record Connection Numbers in 2005
AUSTIN, TX, January 4, 2006. Wayport, Inc. announced today that it experienced record breaking customer connections on the Wayport network in 2005 - nearly 10 million worldwide. The numbers reflect an 83% year to year growth rate from 2004. To date, nearly 19 million paid customer connections have been made on Wayport's network.
Growth through deployments, acquisition, roaming agreements and strategic partnerships have fueled Wayport's continued momentum over the past year in developing new lines of business and new strategies for extended enterprises.
In March, 2005, Wayport signed a new roaming agreement with Cingular Wireless, enabling them to offer Wayport's Wi-Fi service to their millions of customers in airports and hotel common areas. In May, Wayport acquired NetPoint A/S, one of the leading providers of high-speed Internet access for the hospitality industry in Europe and the Middle East. Wayport's European team, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, now operates as Wayport EMEA A/S. Also in May of 2005, Wayport signed a roaming agreement with Nextel, making Wayport's Wi-Fi service available to millions of Sprint/Nextel subscribers in airports and hotel common areas and guestrooms. Throughout the year, Wayport established new service in several exclusive hotel properties like Marriott Vacation Club International, John Q. Hammons Hotels, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and other premier hotel brands.
On October 18th, Wayport and Nintendo announced a landmark agreement that extends Wayport's Wi-Fi service to Nintendo DS^O users at more than 6,300 McDonald's restaurants across the United States. Since the official launch of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection on November 14, Wayport has enabled tens of thousands of Nintendo gaming connections over its network in McDonald's locations. In 2005, Wayport deployed more than 4,000 McDonald's locations. Additionally, Wayport's offering includes the ability to integrate a number of applications for McDonald's stores, including cashless transactions, dial back-up services, security cameras and other critical functions.
Wayport broke another company record in October when more than 1,000,000 connections occurred in a single month through Wayport's network. Furthermore, Wayport introduced two new products last year to benefit hotels and hotel customers. The Vocera VoIP solution enables in-building mobile workers to instantly communicate with one another through a combination of software and a wearable communications badge which operates on Wayport's Wi-Fi network. The Wayport CyberCenter Express, a public space PC solution, offers hotel guests a convenient way for guests to connect to the Internet in hotel lobbies and other public areas.
"Wayport appreciates all of our customers, venues, partners and employees that have contributed to the accelerated growth rate of the company," said Dave Vucina, CEO of Wayport. "In 2005 we demonstrated our proven capability to successfully manage large scale deployments, served millions of customers on our network connections, expanded our roaming agreements, and leveraged the explosion of Wi-Fi enabled devices in the business and consumer marketplace. These activities have served to increase the availability and relevancy of Wi-Fi to a broader customer base worldwide.""Safe Harbor" statement under the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995
