Bird Flu Affecting Asian Adventures
Adventure travellers look to Latin America and Africa as Asia feels the heat
UNITED KINGDOM, January 23, 2006. Figures released today by Guerba, one of the UK's leading travel adventure companies, reveal that bird flu appears to be having an impact on bookings of adventure holidays Asia and the Far East.
As a result travellers have focused their interest on Latin America, which has so far remained untouched by the outbreak. Guerba is reporting a 22% rise in their Latin American bookings, including their Macchu Picchu, Inca Highlands Trek, and Galapagos Adventures. Guerba's African adventure holidays have also witnessed a boost with a 9% rise in sales to places such as Tanzania, Kenya and Zanzibar.
The company is attributing this small shift away from bookings to popular Asian destinations such as Thailand and China, to uncertainty about travelling to places afflicted by the H5N1 strain, partly due to the conflicting advice given by the governments of those countries.
Ian Ripper, director of Guerba says: "With 25 years of experience in travel to Asia and as holders of AITO's award for responsible tourism - we at Guerba constantly monitor our tour destinations and offer extensive advice on all holiday locations. For anyone who is unsure about the impact bird flu is having on a country they want to book a tour in, they should contact Guerba direct."
