Hoteliers to Converge in Nation's Capitol for Legislation Action Summit

. October 14, 2008

Washington, January 24, 2006 - Lodging industry leaders from across the nation will converge in Washington, D.C., March 7-8 for the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) 9th Annual Legislative Action Summit (LAS). Attendees will be briefed on industry issues by some of the most influential policy makers on Capitol Hill and at the White House. Issues on this year's agenda include immigration reform, small business health plans (also referred to as "association health plans"), and timely labor-related issues.

"This year's summit comes at a critical time," said AH&LA Executive Vice President for Public Policy Marlene Colucci. "Congress is poised to address several issues that will directly impact the lodging industry. Bringing our members to Washington to meet with decision-makers will highlight the industry's strength and vitality, and the unified voice of the lodging industry will be heard."

New this year is a briefing for attendees by senior Administration officials at the White House and a HotelPAC dinner with select Members of Congress. Grassroots lobbying is also an integral component of the LAS. Hoteliers will speak directly with their Members of Congress or congressional staffers, and make the case for the industry's position on key issues. AH&LA members also will highlight the positive impact lodging has on the economy in their congressional districts.

In addition, on Thursday, March 9, the AH&LA Women in Lodging Council is hosting its first networking event. Women from every sector and segment of the industry are invited to this special post-conference program, which will feature a vibrant discussion with Kellyanne Conway, a Washington commentator and author of "What Women Really Want: How American Women Are Quietly Erasing Political, Racial, Class, and

Religious Lines to Change the Way We Live."

American Express is the Founding Sponsor for the 2006 LAS. Supporting sponsors are The Home Depot SUPPLY and the AH&LA Good Earthkeeping Alliance, a network of vendors including Trane, General Electric, Project Planet, Servidyne, and Whirlpool Corporation.

To register for LAS or the Women in Lodging event, contact AH&LA's conventions and events department at (202) 289-3114 or [email protected], or visit www.ahla.com http://www.ahla.com/.
