Sheraton's 13th Annual Gingerbread Village Raises $30,000 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
SEATTLE, WA, February 13, 2006. With the help of Puget Sound residents, the Sheraton Seattle's 13th annual Gingerbread Village raised over $30,000 to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) during the 2005 holiday season.
The event featured elaborate gingerbread displays designed, baked and constructed by several of Seattle's top architecture firms and the Sheraton Seattle's culinary staff to reflect the theme "A Charles Dickens Holiday." Due to Sheraton Seattle's $130 million expansion project, this year's Gingerbread Village was moved from the Sheraton across the street to City Centre. Over 300,000 people are estimated to have toured the village.
"As this event is a quintessential Seattle holiday celebration, we were very excited that we were able to partner with City Centre to make it happen this year," said Terry Botten, general manager of the Sheraton Seattle. "It is an honor to be a part of this event every year - to see children and adults delighting in the imaginative creations of our chefs and architects while rallying around a great community cause."
Sheraton Seattle's hotel staff typically donates more than 2,500 volunteer hours putting on the event. The gingerbread creations require approximately 400 volunteer hours by teams of Sheraton chefs and the architecture firms.
Six firms participated in the 2005 Gingerbread Village - 4D Architects, Callison Architecture, DLR Group, Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, Mithun Partners Inc., and MasterBuilders Association. Gingerbread Village was on display throughout City Center from Tuesday, November 22 through Tuesday, January 3, 2006
