New Orleans' Sheraton and W Offer Sponsorship, Shelter, and Showcase to Local Musicians
Hotels Pick Up the Beat this Jazz Fest
NEW ORLEANS, LA, March 9, 2006. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced today that three of its owned and operated hotels, the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel and the W Hotels of New Orleans, have jointly committed to become a major sponsor for the 2006 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The Sheraton New Orleans Hotel is not new to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival family, having been the sole sponsor of the Fais-Do-Do stage for the past 9 years, as well as the Official Host Hotel for each of those years. "We have been with the Jazz Fest in the good years and, along with 3 of our hotels, we are re-confirming our commitment to the city and making sure that everyone knows that we plan on being here for years to come. In our opinion there will never be a more critical moment... a more comprehensive reason... a more significant cause that is as culturally connected to the community, and uniquely New Orleans, as Jazz Fest. If there was ever an occasion for us to stimulate the 'heartbeat' of New Orleans... our music, food and culture... this is it," exclaims Tommy Morel CHME, Area Director of Sales & Marketing, Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
This landmark year of reconstruction of the city; marks the 10th anniversary of the Sheraton participation, and as a major sponsor of this year's Jazz Fest, the Sheraton will host the Fais-Do-Do stage and the W Hotels of New Orleans will host a VIP lounge area for the artists. In addition, the Sheraton and the W Hotels of New Orleans will provide 400 rooms for as a home away from home for the many displaced local and visiting musicians and their crews. And, as a post - festival venue, the Sheraton has positioned their Pelican Lounge as a showcase for local musicians each evening providing an additional performance platform.
"The Sheraton is now synonymous with home to me," remarks Quint Davis, producer and director of the Jazz and Heritage Festival, who was housed at the Sheraton with his staff in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. "I am delighted that the Sheraton has once again opened up their hearts and home to us with such warm hospitality."
