BEIJING, China, March 14, 2006. Chinese residents of five more mainland cities will be able to travel to Hong Kong on an individual basis as tourists, says Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The five cities have yet to be named but Wen said that the decree will come into effect by May 1.

The premier was speaking at a press conference at the close of the annual session of the National People's Congress. This date is the start of the week-long May Labor Day vacation and is when many Chinese travel.

A total of 38 cities in China have already been opened for individual residents to travel as tourists to Hong Kong.
