81st Annual Hotel Ezra Cornell - April 6-9 at Cornell University
Hospitality media leaders make up keynote panel at Cornell Hotel School annual industry conference
ITHACA, NY, March, 27, 2006. Hotel Ezra Cornell (HEC), the student-run hospitality conference and 81-year tradition at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration, will be held April 6-9 at the hotel school on the Cornell campus.
An expert panel of leaders in the hospitality media will keynote the event Friday, April 7, at 8:45 a.m. in the Alice Statler Auditorium of the school. Together, these leaders will discuss the impact of recent events and how these events are shaping the future of the hospitality industry.
The expert panel will include Nancy Novogrod, editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure magazine and editorial director of American Express Publishing; Maria Puetz-Willems, editor-in-chief of HospitalityInside.com; and Christina Binkley, senior special writer for The Wall Street Journal. The panel will be moderated by Barbara Talbott, executive vice president of marketing for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
The incoming dean to the Hotel School, Michael Johnson, will also host a talk, "Competing in a Service Economy: The Future of the Hotel School," on Saturday, April 8, at 9:30 a.m. in room 196 in the school's Beck center. Johnson will interact with students informally throughout the weekend.

HEC is "a delicate blend of education, leisure and culinary events showcasing what 'hotelies' can do," writes one of the student planners on this year's Hotel Ezra Cornell blog - the first in HEC history. Somehow everything gets done in between classes and studying, coming together in the end, he surmises, because, "Hotelies love to put on a show and love to serve. At Hotel Ezra Cornell they can do both." As in years past, this year's HEC has a theme: "A New Era of Leadership."
The first Hotel Ezra Cornell was held in 1925, when the hotel school's first dean launched it to impress hospitality industry pioneers with Cornell students' managerial prowess. Today, the event continues to provide a unique opportunity for Hotel School students to demonstrate the benefits of an education in the field of hotel administration to industry leaders and creates an atmosphere where attendees can share their passion for hospitality.
Highlights include dynamic seminars that address pressing issues in the hospitality industry, an awards banquet celebrating student excellence and the launch of the school's Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship's Innovator Award, and leisure activities that take advantage of Cornell's campus and the surrounding Finger Lakes region.
