Fordham Hotel Spire Gets Chicago Approval
CHICAGO, IL, March 30, 2006. The Chicago City Council has approved plans for the 124-story Fordham Spire, a luxury hotel and condominium tower that will be the tallest structure in the U.S. The unanimous vote represents the final approval hurdle for The Fordham Company, which is developing the tower.
Measuring 1,600 feet to its roof and 2,000 feet to the top of its spire, the development will be located west of Lake Shore Drive where the Chicago River meets Lake Michigan. The project is designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.
When completed in 2010, the tower will house 300 residences and the hotel. The number of hotel rooms hasn't been determined.
