Taj Acquires, Rebrands W Hotel Sydney
SYDNEY, Australia, April 11, 2006. Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces has acquired and rebranded the W Hotel Sydney, the first international location of the seven-year-old boutique hotel brand and the first to change flags.
Mumbai-based Taj has renamed the 100-room hotel, which overlooks Sydney Harbor, choosing the name Blue, Woolloomooloo Bay.
Acquiring the hotel, Taj's first property in Australia, is part of the company's larger strategy to become a global industry player. As aprt of the sam strategy, Taj recently acquired the management contract for The Pierre Hotel in New York.
W, which is part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, retains an international presence in markets such as Seoul, Korea, Mexico City, and Montreal, Canada.
