AVONDALE, AZ, May 23, 2006. Developers of Scottsdale's Kierland Commons are moving forward with their plans for a 930,000-sf project called the Summit at Avondale. Approval for this project went through last fall. Avalon Commercial Corp. of Phoenix has drawn up plans for a new water park at the site, which sits on 33 acres at the southwest corner of Interstate 10 and Avondale Boulevard. Ground is expected to be broken on the entire project during the summer.

In addition to a four/five-star resort and water park, the property will include a 55,000-sf high tech center, 40,000-sf ballroom, full service spa, coffee shop, restaurant and work out center. There will also be 120,000-sf of class A office space, a smaller suites hotel under a Choice Hotels flag, a retail strip center and another 60,000-sf office building.

Avalon expects to manage the hotel and be a franchisee of the signature property.
