St Lucia Unveils Food & Rum Festival
ST LUCIA, May 24, 2006. St Lucia will be host to the first annual Food & Rum festival from 26-29 October with a press trip planned for 24-29 October for commissioned journalists.
Set in the heart of Rodney Bay Village, guests will be wined, dined and entertained by international chefs, local breweries and live music. By day, a series of cooking classes and culinary workshops will be hosted with award winning Chefs from the Caribbean demonstrating their skills.
By night, the Restaurant Alley with over 15 bars and restaurants along the road will be closed off to any cars and converted in to a pedestrian only area.
Chefs and vendors will set up stalls offerring barbeques with an array of Caribbean foods and spices and a wide selection of local rums to choose from.
Live music with international artist (names to be announced shortly)and street dancing to the rhythm of the Caribbean will be on offer under the tropical stars.
Rodney Bay Village Chairman and local hotelier, Allen Chastanet, announced the first Rum & Food Festival by saying "The Caribbean is renowned for its rum, for its variety of spicy foods from all the islands and variety of music which we all enjoy every day. We want to bring our Caribbean Chef's to Rodney Bay Village and highlight the best of the best." He went on to say, "Within Rodney Bay Village we have over 600 hotel rooms which you can walk to all the venues from and enjoy the spirit whcih dispels the perception that St Lucia is only for couples and families." Rodney Bay Village is the heart beat of the entertainment by day and night attracting singles, independent travellers and those looking to explore the island.
