Company Goes Live With Entertainment 2Go(SM) Content Download Service While Developing Solutions For
JUNE 20, 2006. LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation, the world leader in interactive TV and broadband solutions to hotels, today commented on the 'Guest Connectivity' solutions they are showcasing at Booth 301 of the HITEC 2006 trade show in Minneapolis, today through Thursday June 22.
'For today's travelers it's not just about entertainment when they want it, but where they want it,' said Scott C. Petersen, President & CEO for LodgeNet. 'We are working to bring hoteliers the technology solutions that will help guests get more 'WOW' from the personal devices they bring into the room.'
Petersen identified the following as ways LodgeNet is embracing the trend toward portable media:
o The company has launched its industry-first Entertainment 2GoSM service, which enables guests to quickly, easily and legally download movies from an on-site digital server to their laptops. By utilizing LodgeNet's satellite distribution network and edge servers in conjunction with its high-speed Internet access (HSIA) platform, Entertainment 2Go enables a guest with a wired connection to download a full-length movie in as little as five minutes.
o LodgeNet is developing a guest connectivity center (GCC) to enable an easy interface between high-definition displays and a variety of the most popular portable media devices, and to facilitate a quick HSIA connection for laptop users. LodgeNet is also demonstrating a prototype Digital Lifestyle Outfitters 'RoomDock' iPod(R) Docking Station, designed specifically for hotel rooms. The self-contained docking station offers convenience and control for guests who can re-charge their iPod mobile digital devices and play music and videos through the guest room TV, without cords or cables. The unit also enables guests to navigate the iPod menus and control content playback with the keys on the LodgeNet remote control.
o LodgeNet is also demonstrating new concepts for in-room video games . This includes easy connectivity for guests' personal video game consoles to the guest room TV, along with the ability for guests to play other people via network-enabled video platforms over the hotel's wireless HSIA network.
Noting that the TV remains the medium of choice for entertainment and sports programming, Petersen also reported that LodgeNet is continuing to expand the footprint of its Hotel SportsNetSM service, which offers seasonal, daily subscription sports action from the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL as well as college programming through ESPN GamePlan, ESPN FULL COURT and College Sports TV (CSTV).
