First Meeting Set for Dec. 9-10 in Miami

. October 14, 2008

MCLEAN, VA, July 18, 2005. The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) and the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) have signed an agreement to co-produce an annual Caribbean Hotel Sales and Marketing Strategy Conference.

Both associations will work together to plan, promote and produce an annual event with the goal of providing sales and marketing professionals in the Caribbean with information and resources pertaining to the latest trends in sales and marketing competencies that are necessary for success in growing their business.

The first Caribbean Hotel Sales and Marketing Strategy Conference will be held in Miami, Dec. 9-10, 2005.

CHA will manage the event including the venue and all speaker logistics as well as staffing. CHA currently manages seven major conferences and trade shows primarily in the Caribbean marketplace. CHA will also be responsible for marketing the event to Caribbean hotels and other prospective attendees.

HSMAI will be responsible for all content for the program and confirmation of all speakers and will coordinate the development of the conference agenda with the CHA Marketing Committee that provides recommendations for issues to be addressed at the conference.

Furthermore, HSMAI will support the marketing and public relations of the event via press releases and management of a web site for the conference, including online registration capabilities and development of an electronic and online brochure for the event. HSMAI will also market the event to its members and prospective member databases.

"CHA wants to enhance sales and marketing professional development offerings for our members," said Alec Sanguinetti, director general and CEO of CHA. "We recognize that HSMAI is the industry leader and a resource for education and information on sales and marketing worldwide," he added.

"HSMAI has much content already developed that could easily be modified to benefit sales and marketing professionals in the Caribbean and looks forward to increasing our membership penetration there," said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI.

In January 2005, Emanuel Schreibmaier, newly named head of the CHA Marketing Committee, reached out to other organizations to fortify the Committee including asking HSMAI to join and review opportunities to develop and/or provide sales and marketing resources to CHA. Previous to that, Tim Grace, acting director of marketing for CHA, had joined HSMAI and had begun to develop a relationship between the two organizations.

It was decided that the development of a dedicated sales and marketing strategy conference co-owned by both associations was the best approach for all concerned. HSMAI also worked with CHA on content for the CHIC conference that was held in Miami June 24-28.
