JUNE 2, 2009 - The International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) is pleased to announce that it will award a scholarship valued at $1,000+ named: IFWTWA, Travel-Writers-Exchange.Com, Leigh Cort Publicity WiFTy (Wine Food Travel) Scholarship Contest for 2009

This will be awarded to a writer who aspires to enter the field of food, wine and/or travel writing, but who is not already a writer in any of those fields where they have received payment for their work.

The scholarship for the winner will consist of:

Complimentary attendance at the 2010 IFWTWA's 7-day Conference at Sea aboard Holland America's ms Eurodam (including taxes and port charges) with full access to all Professional Development Sessions and two mentoring sessions with a senior IFWTWA member. The cruise will depart from Ft. Lauderdale on January 9, 2010, cruise the Eastern Caribbean and return on January 16. Airfare is not included.

A one-year membership in IFWTWA;

A one-year subscription to Press Pass, IFWTWA's member newsletter, which contains industry news, leads on markets, story Ideas and press trips;

The opportunity to publish at least one article in Global Writes, IFWTWA's online magazine.

The rules are simple:

1. Entrants must be 21 or older;

2. Entrants must be aspiring to be writers in the food, wine or travel genre;

3. One entry per person; duplicate entries will result in disqualification;

4. Entrants will fill out a simple form which includes: Name, address, e-mail, phone and statement attesting to being over 21;

5. Entrants will include a resume;

6. Entrants will include a statement of why they should be awarded the scholarship;

7. Entrants will include a sample of their writing, either published or unpublished, on food, wine or travel or a combination of any of the three topics. Photographs with submission are allowed if available in jpeg format and web resolution.

8. Entries must be in English.

Applications that do not contain all items listed in the rules will be disqualified.

The competition closes on August 15, 2009; all entries must be postmarked no later than August 10, 2009 or received by noon on August 15, if they are submitted online. The winner will be chosen by the IFWTWA Board of Directors and notified by September 15. Early entries are appreciated.

In addition to the winner, there will be two finalists, who will receive:

A one-year membership in IFWTWA; a one-year subscription to Press Pass; and the opportunity to publish at least one article in Global Writes.

An announcement of the results will be made both in Press Pass and on the IFWTWA website and released to the press by Leigh Cort Publicity, as well as TravMedia.com and Food4Media.com. It will also be released by Travel-Writers-Exchange.Com.

This award program is funded by IFWTWA, with a $500 contribution from Travel-Writers-Exchange.com and $100 from Leigh Cort Publicity. Total value for winner is $1000+. Value for finalists is $175+.

IFWTWA obtained the finances to sponsor this by our auction in January 2009. The auction items were provided by donations from: Grand Hyatt - Chicago, Infinity Publishing, Monkey C.
