CFHLA Honors Al Weiss for Community Leadership

. October 14, 2008

ORLANDO, FL, December 15, 2006. At its Annual Gala on Dec. 16, 2006, the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association (CFHLA) will present Al Weiss, President of Worldwide Operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the 2006 Charles Andrew Hospitality Award for Community Leadership.

Each year, the award honors one local leader for their contribution to the area's tourism industry through community service. The award is named after the founding father of the CFHLA, Charles Andrews, and exemplifies perseverance and dedication to a cause.

"Weiss' dedication to the Orlando area embodies the spirit and intent of this award," stated CFHLA President Rich Maladecki. "In addition to his superb management of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, his vision and dedication were recently displayed when he worked to build industry consensus to support the penny increase of the Tourist Development Tax in Orange County. His vigilant dedication to this initiative will revitalize our economy. This is just one example of the many efforts that made Weiss a natural recipient for this award by the CFHLA Board."

The 2006 Hospitality Gala will be held at The Peabody Orlando with over 1,000 hospitality executives expected along with many Central Florida elected officials. To date, the following officials are scheduled to attend: State Senator Lee Constantine, State Representative Scott Randolph, Orange County Comptroller Martha Haynie, Orange County Commissioner Fredrick Brummer, Seminole County Commissioner Bob Dallari, Orange County Commissioner Mildred Fernandez, Orange County Commissioner Bill Segal, Osceola County Commissioner Ken Smith, and Orlando Commissioner Daisy Lynum.

The Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association is the World's Largest Regional Hotel Association.
