Andaz WeHo Recognized for Architecture, Design
Reinvented Hyatt on Sunset Strip
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA (February 4, 2010) - Lauded for its “seductive, sophisticated atmosphere and clear and restrained palette of materials,” Andaz West Hollywood - Sunset Strip's sleek new hotel hot spot - emerged as a winner in Contract Magazine's annual “Interior Awards,” which pay tribute to the very best of contemporary interior design.
The 31st annual competition, which featured 15 honorees representing various industries ranging from healthcare to retail, recognized Andaz --and New York-based architectural firm Janson Goldstein -- in the Hotel category. Properties were judged by a jury of architecture and design professionals, who described Andaz's design as “surprising, mysterious, dramatic and sensual.”
Andaz WeHo, which opened in January 2009, is in fact an inspired reinvention of the Hyatt on Sunset Strip - an area icon frequented by a slew of rock legends in the 60s and 70s. According to architect Ha testament to uncluttered urban architecture, with design elements gleaned from a storied past and the vibrant surrounding neighborhood. With generous use of glass to bring the outdoors in and subtly reinforce a “sense of place,” Andaz's interiors exude a breezy transparency, with an open, ethereal ambiance. With an absence of walls, spatial and visual fluidity continues through the lounge, restaurant, lobby, and out into the street itself.
Highlights include: a full-wall back-lit image by artist Amanda Weil that anchors the main entrance, a stunning array of modern artworks by California artists, a glass pavilion housing the highly touted RH Restaurant & Bar, sustainably harvested wood flooring, expansive junior suites with floor-to-ceiling glass sunrooms and an all-glass southern façade.
