KLM Increases Chengdu Service
SEPTEMBER 6, 2006. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is to increase the number of flights between Amsterdam and Chengdu in central China from two to three roundtrips a week.
The new service, like the existing two services, will be operated using Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. KLM launched the scheduled service between Amsterdam and Chengdu on May 28 this year. The strong rise in demand on this route has enabled KLM to increase the frequency to three roundtrips a week as of December 1 of this year.
Chengdu is the economic heart of the provinces of Sichuan and Chongqing. This area has around 120 million inhabitants, a rapidly growing economy, and important tourist attractions.
The new service will depart on Fridays from Schiphol as flight KL 891 and from Chengdu on Saturdays as KL 892. The two existing flights depart from Amsterdam on Tuesdays and Sundays, and from Chengdu on Wednesdays and Mondays.
KLM has also been nominated this year for a World Travel Award as Caribbean's Leading Business Class Airline.
