ST. AUGUSTINE, FL - September 10, 2010 - A streetscape redesigned just for outdoor dining, events celebrating a rich heritage and flavorful foods, and special fixed-price dining menus at dozens of area restaurants will greet October visitors to Florida's Historic Coast. This October, the spotlight will shine on the area's outstanding dining and culinary traditions.

Located mid-way between Daytona Beach and Jacksonville, Florida's Historic Coast features 42 miles of unspoiled Atlantic beaches; the nations' oldest city, St. Augustine; the elegant seaside resorts of Ponte Vedra; and some of the world's best golfing opportunities.

Founded by the Spanish in 1565, St. Augustine continues to celebrate daily the flavors of Spain that were a rich part of the everyday life here for nearly 250 years. Combined with the Mediterranean culinary traditions brought to Florida's Historic Coast by Minorcan and Greek colonists in the 18th century, the area offers both time-tested Old World favorites and cutting-edge culinary creations as new as today. The tantalizing tastes of these flavorful influences are made even more exciting by the variety of dining atmospheres found here -- oceanfront seafood restaurants, old Florida riverfront hideaways, quaint bistros and trendy eateries. "Foodies" ranging from epicurean experts to folks who just want a delicious, flavorful meal can easily satisfy their culinary cravings on Florida's Historic Coast.

October is dedicated to Flavors of Florida's Historic Coast, a month-long dining experience that offers visitors an opportunity to experience the wide-range of local culinary diversity. Each of the participating restaurants is presenting a "Chef's Choice" prix fixe (fixed price) three-course meal reflecting its unique flavor and style. Great food, paired with enticing "stay and eat" accommodation packages, makes October the perfect month to visit Florida's Historic Coast.

October 2010 Featured Events:

• October 1 - 31: Flavors of Florida's Historic Coast - A month-long fixed price dining event that introduces visitors to the culinary diversity and regional flavors that have made Florida's Historic Coast a favorite foodie destination.
• October 1: First Friday Art Walk - A walk through the exciting art galleries in St. Augustine.
• October 1: Grand Re-opening of Aviles Street - The oldest street in the oldest city, Aviles Street has undergone a transformation that has resulted in returning it to its original 17th century authenticity—complete with sidewalk dining.
• October 2: Hispanic Heritage Festival - An afternoon of Hispanic heritage featuring colonial Spanish re-enactors, flamenco dancing, Latin music and more!
• October 8 through 10: 13th Annual Greek Festival - A celebration of the Greek culture that is an integral part of St Augustine's history. The festival has plenty of freshly prepared Greek food and pastries, costumed Greek dancers and musicians, and an Agora (market).
• October 16: Cracker Day - Florida's Country Cracker Heritage featuring bluegrass, horsemanship demonstrations and mouth-watering barbecue.
• October 23: Datil Pepper Festival - an event featuring the spicy little pepper that is a great part of St. Augustine's epicurean history. Taste local dishes and purchase pepper products along with plants and garden decor - all at the St. Johns County Agricultural Fair.
• October 23: Oktoberfest Celebration - Lots of German beer, wine, food and entertainment!
• November 7: 25th Annual Great Chowder Debate - More than 30 area restaurants come together in a flavorful competition to decide who has the best chowder on Florida's Historic Coast.
