India Invites Big Brother's Jade Goody to 'Cleanse Her Stresses Away'
Insult Ignites Controversy
JANUARY 22, 2007. Celebrity Big Brother's race row has prompted the India Tourism Office to extend a personal invitation to Jade Goody to come and "experience the healing nature of India."
During the reality show, Jade Goody told Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty to: 'Go back to the slums'. Her bully tactics have escalated into an international incident as protesters burned effigies of the show's organisers on the streets of India.
In an advertisement placed in several of today's national newspapers - the India Tourism Office extend a welcome hand to Jade. The open letter highlights the diversity of the destination which 'offers something for everyone', where the "ancient and the modern co-exist". It describes its 'bustling cosmopolitan cities' 'quiet countryside', 'snow-clad mountains' and 'long sandy coastlines'.
The letter suggests that Jade, who used to be a beauty therapist, should visit one of the spas to"cleanse her stresses away" and enjoy yoga in the land that invented it. It concludes: "The best way to understand Incredible India is to visit and we look forward to welcoming you soon."
