Hilton Inn at Penn Launches Renovation
Four Month Project Supports Commitment to Superior Guest Service, and Renewed Focus on Sustainability and Technology
December 8, 2010 - Hilton Inn at Penn, an AAA Four Diamond hotel, today announced the start of a multi-million dollar renovation designed to modernize the property's 238 guest rooms and suites. The two-phased project, under the creative direction of interior design firm RD Jones & Associates, will update each guest room with contemporary and sustainable features, including energy-saving technology, WaterSense® showerheads and Apple iPads. The renovation is expected to be completed by March 2011.
RD Jones & Associates conceptualized a more modern feel that also adheres to the hotel's timeless and traditional design aesthetic. Rooms feature new desks, ergonomic chairs, chaise lounges, and local artwork to reflect scenes around Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania campus. Newly designed bathrooms evoke a spa-like feel with glass-enclosed showers, Euro-style shower systems, backlit electric mirrors and neutral ceramic tile throughout. The hotel's corridors will also be updated with new custom carpeting, sconces and wall coverings.
New technology in each guest room is specifically designed to improve both work efficiency and guest comfort. Travelers can now play their own music and movies through TeleAdapt® MediaHubs, which connect electronic devices and laptop computers directly to high-definition LCD televisions. The Inn at Penn will be the first Hilton hotel as well as the first hotel in Philadelphia to introduce the Apple iPads equipped with Intelity/ICE® software to their guestrooms. The iPads will enable guests to access hotel services and information on their schedule in multiple languages while relaxing in the comfort of Hilton's renowned Serenity Bed™.
“RD Jones & Associates designed a luxurious, inviting and functional space that truly complements the University of Pennsylvania lifestyle,” said Greg Stafford, general manager, Hilton Inn at Penn. “You'll still find elements of the early Arts & Crafts/Mission design style in our new guest rooms and suites, but with a contemporary twist that combines sustainability with modern-day technology.”
Hilton Inn at Penn maintained its focus on environmental responsibility by integrating sustainable features in the guest rooms that are designed to positively impact the guest experience. Fabrics, wall coverings and bathroom tile contain recycled content; blackout shades and fluorescent lighting support energy efficiency; and WaterSense® showerheads save thousands of gallons of water annually. Hilton Inn at Penn is also the beneficiary of a $100,000 energy improvement grant to support the installation of the Evolve® guestroom lighting and temperature control system. The hotel is expected to reduce its energy consumption by as much as 30 percent annually with this new technology, which activates in-room lighting, heating and air conditioning upon guest arrival.
The implementation of these innovative features further strengthens the hotel's ongoing efforts to reduce its overall carbon footprint. Earlier this year, front desk associates received new eco-friendly uniforms that are manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 66 percent less energy is required to manufacture materials made from recyclable plastic. The process reduces water usage by 90 percent and also helps eliminate harmful air emissions.
Located within Philadelphia's vibrant University City District, Hilton Inn at Penn is neatly situated on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, just steps away from museums, restaurants and shopping. Each of the hotel's 238 beautifully appointed guest rooms are equipped with wireless Internet access, plush terry cloth robes and luxurious bath amenities. Hilton Inn at Penn also features approximately 22,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a divisible Grand Ballroom, two primary meeting rooms, and an additional 26 small conference suites.
The hotel's signature dining outlets, Penne Restaurant & Wine Bar features innovative Italian cuisine made from the freshest local ingredients. Award-winning Executive Chef Roberta Adamo composes signature homemade pastas, which are complemented by an Italian wine selection managed under the direction of Master Sommelier Marco Avigo.
