Third Home2 Suites Property Breaks Ground in Charlotte, NC

. August 12, 2011

August 11, 2011 - Home2 Suites by Hilton broke ground in Charlotte, N.C. on the recently-launched brand's twelfth hotel. The property will be the third Home2 Suites in the North Carolina market, following the brand's inaugural hotel in Fayetteville, which opened in February of this year, and another in Jacksonville slated to open in early 2012.

The Charlotte Home2 Suites will be located at 6025 Tyvola Glen Circle, a short distance from Charlotte International Airport, the Charlotte Convention Center, the Time Warner Cable Arena and many other area attractions. Developed by C.N. Hotels, Inc., the same firm currently building the Jacksonville property, the 89-room, all-suite hotel is on track to open in time for the 2012 Democratic National Convention next September.

Home2 Suites executives joined representatives from C.N. Hotels and local community leaders to celebrate the official groundbreaking with an onsite reception, brief remarks and a ceremonial first dig. To commemorate the brand's commitment to the Charlotte community and its growing roots across the state, C.N. Hotels provided everyone in attendance with a Loblolly Pine sapling, a tree native to southeastern United States commonly found throughout North Carolina.

“We're excited for the opportunity to partner with Home2 Suites again and expand our presence in North Carolina with the Charlotte property,” said Sunil Patel, executive vice president, C.N. Hotels. “This is our second Home2 Suites and our fourth hotel in the Hilton Worldwide portfolio of brands, and we're working very hard to make sure it's completed in time to accommodate the influx of visitors to the city for the Democratic National Convention next fall.”

“The Charlotte region has arrived as the premiere convention, corporate, events and leisure travel destination in America,” said Mohammad Jenatian, president of the Greater Charlotte Hospitality and Tourism Alliance. “With travel and tourism growing in the Charlotte area, we are fortunate to have major demand for more hotel rooms. The addition of Home2Suites by Hilton is very important for accommodating our growing number of visitors while enabling our tourism industry, which has become a major economic catalyst for our region, to continue to grow and create more jobs and more revenues.”

In addition to the 2012 Democratic Convention, Charlotte's position as a major U.S. financial center and as a home to such leading institutions as Bank of America , Lowe's and Time Warner Cable is expected to drive extended-stay visits to the new Home2 Suites hotel. The property is also in close proximity to the airport, convention center, Bobcat's arena, Verizon Amphitheater, Bank of America Stadium, the Nascar Hall of Fame Museum, Discovery Place Museum and other local tourist attractions that regularly draw visitors to the city.

“We already know that C.N. Hotels is a great partner for the Home2 Suites brand, and we're certain Charlotte will be an excellent fit for us as well,” said Dawn Koenig, vice president of brand performance support for Homewood and Home2 Suites by Hilton. “The fresh Home2 Suites concept and modern style will be a great option for any guest traveling to Charlotte on business or for pleasure and looking for comfortable, affordable extended-stay accommodations.”

All Home2 Suites properties are designed to meet the needs of modern business travelers and a younger generation of extended-stay guests with a distinct style of contemporary, comfortable accommodations with an emphasis on flexibility and easy access to technology. The recently launched brand currently has three hotels open in Fayetteville, NC; Layton, Utah and Baltimore, MD; with eight others under construction, 40 in the development stage and plans for more than 50 additional properties in the works.

The Charlotte Home2 Suites will feature two elements unique to the property, an indoor saline pool and a meeting room, in addition to the extensive array of amenities standard at all Home2 Suites hotels. Other highlights will include an integrated guest laundry and fitness room, a patio and grill, outdoor lounge, an exercise trail and a bright, inviting indoor community space.

In developing the concept of the brand, the Home2 Suites team found research shows guests in extended-stay situations seek community and connection after several days, even if it means they are singularly working among others in a common space. To help address that need, all Home2 Suites properties feature an open lobby area with an approximately 4,200-square-foot community space called the “Oasis.” The Oasis, which includes communal and individual work zones, wireless access, a 52” flat-screen TV and an expansive complimentary continental breakfast service, is designed to encourage a social environment where guests can relax together, research the local area, check e-mail and enjoy an assortment of hospitality resources unrivaled in this segment of the hotel industry.

All guest suites at the new Charlotte property will include a variety of modern features and amenities, such as the proprietary Home2 Suites “working wall,” which incorporates the kitchen and flexible working space connecting separate living and bedroom zones. A fully accessorized kitchen will contain a refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, place settings for six, microwave oven and coffee maker, and the media/working zone will feature a queen-size sofa/sleeper, 42” flat-screen TV, roll-around ottoman, ambient task lighting and an iHome alarm clock with iPod port and MP3 jack. Various pieces of furniture in each of the suites will also be designed to move around, allowing guests to create customized living spaces and adjustable storage options.

The Home2 Suites brand is committed to environmentally conscious practices and has been incorporating a number of sustainable living fixtures and services into all new hotels. In addition to recycling throughout the hotel, guest suites feature low-flow showers and faucets, biodegradable food trays, compact fluorescent light bulbs, dual-flush toilets, recycled flooring, Energy Star appliances, and carpet and surfaces made from recycled product and other sustainable product selections. Home2 Suites has also rolled out Hilton's portfolio of brand's proprietary LightStay system, which measures energy and water use and waste and carbon output at Hilton Worldwide properties around the globe.
