Windsor/Aughtry Announces Baton Rouge Hotel Development

Seven-Story Hampton Inn to be Built Downtown

. September 19, 2011

GREENVILLE, SC - September 16, 2011 - Windsor/Aughtry Company of Greenville, S.C., as developer for AHG Hotels of Greenville, announced that construction has begun on a new Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Baton Rouge, La., at the corner of Main and Lafayette streets. This is Windsor/Aughtry's 14th hotel development, but its first in Louisiana.

The site is one block from the Mississippi River and has unimpeded views of the river, downtown, and the State Capitol grounds. Forty-two of the seven-story property's 137 total guest rooms will have balconies and 36 will be suites. The property will be supported by 1,000 square feet of meeting space as well as an executive board room, both appointed with state-of-the-art presentation equipment. The hotel will also have internal exercise facilities and a business center.

“This hotel is a very upscale, urban Hampton, and fits in perfectly with the contemporary look and feel of downtown Baton Rouge,” said Bill Fayssoux of Windsor/Aughtry.

The hotel was designed by Bounds & Gillespie Architects PLLC and will be constructed by Pride Construction LLC, both of Memphis, Tenn. Ann Stewart Company, also of Memphis, is responsible for interior design and selections. “Our guest rooms will be second to none in this market,” said Windsor/Aughtry's P.C. “Bo” Aughtry III. “While a focused service property by definition, it is surrounded by excellent dining and entertainment establishments, permitting it to provide many of the conveniences of a more full-service property.”

Terracon of Baton Rouge is the geotechnical engineering consultant on the project and Baton Rouge-based SJB Group LLC is the civil engineer. The development has a Community Benefits Agreement and the majority of subcontractors and labor will come from the local area. Approximately 110 construction jobs are expected to be created. Once completed, the property will employ an estimated 50 full-time and 15-part-time workers while creating 55 support service and vendor jobs.

“We are very excited about the property's contribution to the evolving renaissance of Baton Rouge's downtown area,” Aughtry said.

The hotel will be managed by Hospitality America Inc., a Nashville, Tenn.-based hotel management firm. “We are thrilled about opening and operating this very special Hampton Inn & Suites, which will feature a combination of high aesthetic design with all that makes the Hampton brand famous, backed by the 100% Hampton guarantee,” said Chris Cargen, CEO of Hospitality America. Construction is expected to take approximately 14 months. Financing is provided by Wells Fargo, in conjunction with the East Baton Rouge Community Development Entity LLC, an entity managed by the East Baton Rouge Redevelopment Authority.
