SANTAGO, Chile, August 5, 2005. LAN Airlines and LAN Cargo are acquiring 12 long-haul Boeing 767-300 aircraft for passenger and cargo operations, an investment totaling US$1.1 billion. These aircraft, to be received between this year and 2008, are intended to double the company's freighter fleet, and also strengthen the international passenger routes serviced by LAN Alliance member airlines, including LAN Peru, LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador and LAN Airlines, through lease arrangements.

This investment is in addition to the recent approval for the acquisition of 25 short-haul Airbus A319 and A318 aircraft already announced by LAN. This new measure, coupled with other acquisitions, will translate into 46 new aircraft over a four-year term for a total investment of approximately US$2.2 billion.

Enrique Cueto, LAN Airlines Chief Executive Officer, said "this delivery marks the beginning of a historical initiative that shows the company's confidence in the development of Latin American countries. The LAN Alliance, distinguished at an international level for its quality service, will offer its passenger and cargo clients one of the most modern fleets worldwide."

The LAN service alliance participating airlines LAN Airlines, LAN Peru, LAN Ecuador and LAN Argentina offer a united spirit of reliability and charm that provides passengers the highest level of service and safety with the complete travel experience throughout the skies of the Americas.
