Tobago's Newest Resort, Magdalena Grand Beach Raises the Culinary Bar
Executive chef and culinary team introduce five new restaurants on the island of Tobago
Opening this month as Tobago's newest resort in more than a decade, the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort and its culinary team are ready to please the palates of guests from around the world with creative menus at five new restaurants.
Executive Chef Carsten Stelzer, most recently of the Concorde El Salam Hotel Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, along with Executive Sous Chef Adrian Cumberbatch, most recently executive chef at Trinidad's Carlton Savannah, and Executive Task Force Chef Paul Gregory Mowser have crafted interesting, diverse menus for the resort's restaurants, reflecting a variety of cuisines and infused with a Tobagonian flair.
The resort has worked with the island's Department of Agriculture to partner with local farmers and ensure that they are growing fresh produce that can be incorporated into the resort's culinary offerings. Guests can get a true taste of Tobago with local dishes such as Curry Crab Tabanca (dumpling filled with curry crab), Oil Down (breadfruit, coconut milk, Shandon Beni (cilantro), garlic, pimento), Lambi (conch) Ceviche, Callaloo Soup, CooCoo (a cornmeal dish), Fish Broth and Provision (root vegetable) Chips.
The resort's dining options include Caribbean fusion fine dining at Kali'na (Amerindian name given to the native Caribs/Arawaks), the Pembois Buffet (Pembois is a Patois word meaning “breadfruit” which came to Tobago in the 18th century), casual dining at Benne Cafe (Benne are traditional sweets in Tobago) and the Robinson Crusoe Pub, and fresh seafood at the Salaka Grill (the Salaka Feast is a celebration in honor of the ancestors of the African tribes). Guests can also enjoy freshly baked breads, pastries and more for breakfast or a snack at the onsite pastry shop.
The resort is offering an introductory special of 15 percent off rates, which start at $330 per night, from January 5 to April 14, 2012. For more information and reservations, please call 868.660.8800 or email reservations@magdalenagrand.com.
