Nevada Commission on Tourism Honors Seven Volunteers

. October 14, 2008

PRIMM, NV, March 30, 20007. A grateful Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) presented Excellence in Tourism awards to seven Nevadans from around the state to recognize their exceptional volunteer efforts in promoting the state's No. 1 industry, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki announced today.

The winners received the awards Thursday evening at NCOT's 17th annual Rural Roundup conference, which this year is at the Primm Valley Casino Resort in the community of Primm near Las Vegas. The three-day conference, which ends Friday, is devoted to issues and trends that affect Nevada's tourism-building program in rural Nevada.

"It is a privilege to honor these seven outstanding individuals for their noteworthy achievements in helping to draw more visitors to rural Nevada," Krolicki said. "They roll up their sleeves and give freely of their time to help bolster the health of our tourism economy, and these awards express our gratitude."

One winner was selected from each of Nevada's six tourism "territories," or regions with similar geographic or cultural characteristics. The seventh award was presented for achievements that benefited the entire state.

"Our tourism-dependent rural communities must rely on volunteers to develop and promote new attractions, events and activities," NCOT Director Tim Maland said. "These award winners know how to harness intriguing ideas and community spirit to produce successful attractions that will beckon visitors to venture into wide-open Nevada."
