STOCKBRIDGE, MA. July 14, 2015 - The Red Lion Inn has been awarded the “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator this month. The Inn has received Wine Spectator's “Award of Excellence” for the previous 14 consecutive years. The Inn's extensive wine program, offering more than 560 selections and 50 half-bottle selections, features international artisan producers and Northeastern regional wines.

The “Best of Award of Excellence” is the second-tier award given out by Wine Spectator, created to recognize restaurants that clearly exceed the requirements of the “Award of Excellence.” The award recognizes restaurants that offer 350 or more selections, superior presentation and display either vintage depth or excellent breadth across several wine regions.

“Wine is an integral part of the dining experience here at The Red Lion,” said Inn Sommelier Dan Thomas. Thomas has been with the Inn for over seven years; he possesses an extensive knowledge of oenology and has completed the first level of the Court of Master Sommeliers.

Thomas said about the Inn's wine program, “We are committed to providing our guests with a superior wine selection - not just trophy wines but a balanced selection for all tastes and budgets.” The program includes an extensive variety, focusing on both the great classic regions and producers and smaller family-owned and -operated wineries.

The wine list also gives a hearty nod to local producers, aligning with The Red Lion Inn's culinary philosophy of providing local and sustainable cuisine. The Inn offers a large selection of Northeastern regional wines from The Finger Lakes, Hudson Valley and Long Island.

In addition to his Sommelier role with The Red Lion Inn, Dan Thomas serves as Wine and Bar Director of Main Street Hospitality Group, a hospitality management company based in Stockbridge. The hospitality group manages three other properties including The Porches Inn at MASS MoCA in North Adams, The Williams Inn in Williamstown and Hotel on North in Pittsfield.
