To round out your romantic escapade, try one of these activities and let the sparks fly:
- Hike up to Pu'u Pehe (Sweetheart Rock) next to Hulopo'e Bay at sunrise. Legend has it that a beautiful young chiefess wed a young warrior from Lâna'i. The young warrior was so stricken with her beauty that he was afraid to let other men see her when he was away from their homestead, and thus he confined the princess to a sea cave near the rock. One day, while the warrior was away, the weather changed drastically, and the raging surf began to pound the side of the island. The warrior rushed back to the cave, but it was too late, as his beloved Pu'u Pehe had drowned. Heartbroken, he retrieved her body and, with the help of the gods, climbed the steep rock island, where he buried her in a tomb. Overcome with grief, the warrior then leapt off the rock to his death.
- Jump in a 4x4 and head to Halepalaoa Beach on the eastern side of the island. Named for the whales that once washed ashore there, this golden sandy beach is a quiet place to relax, sunbathe and swim - often with nary another beachcomber in sight! Pack a picnic and enjoy a day together lounging in secluded bliss. The ruins of the old Maunalei Sugar Plantation wharf are nearby for a bit of sightseeing before heading back to civilization.
- Capture the moment in canvas and commission a sketch or painting by local artist Mike Carroll. Mike moved from Chicago to Lâna'i to pursue his life-long passion for art and nature and his original oil paintings and prints celebrate Hawai'i. Couples can share a favorite romantic spot or send in a photo to commemorate their visit and take home a unique remembrance of a special time together.
- Set out on the waves together for a snorkel sail and explore your own underwater world together. View the island of Lâna'i from a different perspective and enjoy the ocean breezes, beautiful views and exciting variety of colorful fish. Climb aboard a beautiful catamaran and let the experienced team from Trilogy Excursions cast you away.
Four Seasons Resort Lâna'i is located on a pristine island a few miles west of Maui reflecting a simpler pace of life - Hawai'i as it was intended to be.
