"Love Happens" at Carnaval, May 26-27, 2007

Carnaval San Francisco, one of California's largest annual multi-cultural celebrations, showcases the very best of Latin American and Caribbean cultures over the Memorial Day weekend, May 26-27, 2007.

Themed "Love Happens," the two-day festival begins on Saturday, May 26 and culminates with the breathtaking Carnaval grand parade on Sunday, May 27. The emphasis is on amor from start to finish. Couples are encouraged to exchange or renew their wedding vows at the start of the parade, followed by a float ride to the festival for a reception. The "Love Nest" will encourage singles to make a match, and over in the Dance Pavilion "speed dancing," the rhythmic version of speed dating, will add to the fun. Everyone is encouraged to bring a photo of a loved one to hang on the block-long Wall of Love or make a family tree showing love through the generations.

The 2007 Carnaval San Francisco festival runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Located on Harrison Street, between 16th and 24th streets, the festival will offer food, music, dance, art, crafts and other fun activities and events for the entire family to enjoy.

The Carnaval parade on Sunday, May 27 starts at 9:30 am at the corner of 24th and Bryant streets where it will proceed west to Mission Street. From there, the parade heads north on Mission down to 17th Street, where it will turn east and flow into the festival area. The festival and parade are free; VIP parade seating is available for $25 per seat.

Conceived 29 years ago by a group of local musicians, artists and residents eager to bring the spirit of Latin American and Caribbean culture to San Francisco, Carnaval San Francisco is produced by the Mission Neighborhood Centers, Inc. and is supported by San Francisco's Grants for the Arts.
