Mexico, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. June 18, 2020

Velas Resorts in Mexico reopened their doors to domestic and international travelers on Monday, June 15th. The resort collection's properties now open include Grand Velas in Los Cabos, Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit, Mar del Cabo in Baja California Sur and Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta.

All facilities and amenities are open in accordance with the resort's comprehensive ‘ Stay Safe with Velas Program. ' The health and sanitary protocols for both guests and staff members adhere to standards dictated by the World Health Organization and the government of Mexico. Sanitizing mats and booths, touchless hand sanitizing dispensers, increased cleaning and sanitation with both EPA-chemicals and UV light, and special COVID-19 training for staff are examples of protocols being implemented by the resort collection.

To decrease in-person contact should guests' desire, the resort collection has launched new features on the Velas Resorts' mobile app. A Concierge chat and restaurant and spa menus as well as pre-registration for fitness classes and other resort activities are some of the offerings.

Additionally, the destinations of Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Mexican Caribbean, and Riviera Nayarit, where Velas resorts are located, have all received the global safety stamp of approval from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). The distinction is delivered to destinations that fully comply with the Safe Travels protocols of cleaning issued by the WTTC, based on the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Prevention (CDC).

Eco-Friendly Practices: Now More Than Ever

One theory about the pandemic states that future viruses are more likely to originate and flourish due to global warming. If true, the urgency to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly practices is greater than ever. Of course, there are many other reasons to create a sustainable operation, including reduced utility costs, savings on operational costs, healthier and happier guests and employees, and positive publicity, marketing and community goodwill. Many hotels are introducing innovative programs into their operations - from recycling bins in guest rooms to starting a roof top garden. Other hotels are using eco-friendly cleaning products, reusing towels and sheets, sourcing locally grown food, supporting the use of electric vehicles, and permitting guests to refill their reusable water bottles with clean, filtered water. Finally, some hotels are encouraging guests to get involved by making it possible for them to participate in local community clean-up projects. The May issue of the Hotel Business Review will document what some hotels are doing to integrate sustainable practices into their operations and how they are benefiting from them.
