USA, Naples, Florida. May 17, 2021

The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB appointed Sandra Rios as the organization's new Public Relations and Communications Manager. Rios joins the team at Florida's Paradise Coast with extensive communications experience for nationally recognized hospitality brands. In this role, Rios will direct the public relations and communications efforts for the tourism and hospitality sector in Collier County.

Rios most recently served as the Director of Public Relations for Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, overseeing publicity efforts for the flagship property including the opening of the $1.5 billion Guitar Hotel. Prior to joining Hard Rock, Rios held public relations and communications positions with Ocean Properties at The Resort at Longboat Key Club in Sarasota, Florida, Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut and other hospitality destinations in the Northeast. She has served as a member of the VISIT Sarasota Marketing Committee, Chair of the Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce Marketing Committee and served on various communications and media committees for VISIT Florida.

"We waited a long time to fill this role because we wanted to find just the right person, and we're thrilled that Sandra has joined our team. With her at the CVB, our public relations efforts will reach a new level of success."

"I'm honored to be joining Jack Wert and the team at the CVB leading the public relations and communications efforts for our exceptional destination," said Rios. "This is an exciting time on Florida's Paradise Coast with a lot of new and dynamic developments on the horizon. I'm looking forward to helping tell our story and inspire travelers to experience our destination to its fullest."

Revenue Management: Monetizing All Offerings

Of all the departments within hotel operations, Revenue Management may have been the hardest hit, due to the pandemic. The logic goes - no revenue, no need for revenue managers - so many industry professionals were furloughed. If business rebounds in 2021, as expected, then hotel management will have to determine when prevailing occupancy levels justify bringing back their revenue management team. Also, the pandemic seems to have exposed some weaknesses in the traditional RevPAR models. There is a growing understanding that it is no longer sufficient to use a "revenue per available room" model; instead, hotels are adopting a TRevPAR model (total revenue per available room). This model recognizes that revenue streams from other departments are just as important as the revenue gained from rooms. As a result, hotels are looking at ways to monetize any and all hotel offerings - from dining outlets and spas to outdoor function spaces and local partnerships. The October issue of the Hotel Business Review will examine these developments and report on how some leading hotels are executing their revenue management strategies.
