More than 2,000 people across Britain were surveyed* about their festive shopping habits to reveal the shops and services deemed most crucial for creating the perfect Christmas, such as gift shops and farmers' markets. Yellow Pages' data analysts then ranked people's preferences and matched them using a weighting system against the number of relevant shops or services listed in each area directory.
This "Christmas Shopping Formula**" identified the 2007 top ten locations for the ultimate seasonal shopping experience as follows: Glasgow, Exeter, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Brighton, Cardiff, Norwich, Chester, Preston and Bristol. Key criteria for the 'Great Street' accolade, awarded to this celebrated Glasgow thoroughfare last month, included local character, distinctiveness, user-friendliness, and commercial success.
