Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo Re-Opens Following Multimillion-Dollar Renovation

Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. May 20, 2022

Nestled in the heart of Santo Domingo's financial district, Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo announces its reopening following a comprehensive renovation of public areas and guest rooms which now offer flexibility to work, gather and relax.

With an investment of approximately $5 million by developer SH Group dedicated to the construction of large complexes, this renovation has prepared the property to exceed guest and visitor expectations. It also reinforces the developer's partnership with Marriott International, which together have launched and operated several properties in the region in countries such as Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic.

Marriott International and the Owners Association seek to contribute to the Dominican Republic tourism industry's continued recovery with this ambitious investment and product that follows all of the measures established by the brand's "Commitment to Clean."

"We are thrilled to introduce our guests to the reinvented Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo, offering them a modern and enriching experience from the moment that they check in," said Yudit García, General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo. "Our new look and feel will allow us to continue providing top accommodations for travelers who assist in positioning Santo Domingo as one of the world's most renowned corporate destinations."

The renovation began at the end of 2020 with the improvement of the property's public spaces: guest rooms, corridors, exteriors, facade, restaurants, pool area, gym, outdoor terrace and functional rooms. With its minimal design that combines natural materials and colors that reflect the destination, the Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo invites travelers to discover the wonders of the Dominican-coined "mother of all lands" during each stay.

The property's new guest rooms feature sophisticated desk and sofa furnishings that meet the business traveler's work space needs. The multi-purpose lobby can now serve as a space for team breakfasts, client cocktail meetings and more. The Kitchen and Bar Restaurant offers an extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, while Crate functions as an indoor convenience store with elevated "grab & go" options.

Located on Avenida Máximo Gómez, of the National District, the Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo opened its doors 19 years ago and was a pioneer in the development of the selected business service within the market.

Hotel Spa: Now More Than Ever

In the aftermath of the global health crisis, there is a newfound appreciation for the need to be fit - both in body and mind - and hotels that provide a spa or wellness clinic will reap the rewards. What are clients seeking? Better health, fitness, nutrition, appearance, sleep and mindfulness. It is no longer sufficient for spas to only offer massages or facials; clients are demanding more for the benefit of their overall well-being. For example, a medical spa might offer services such as botox, dermal fillers, body sculpting, and microdermabrasion. Other spas are emphasizing the importance of preventative therapeutics and are using technologies such as body scanners to evaluate their clients' health. Some spas are enlisting osteopaths, naturopaths, fitness coaches, yoga masters, even psychologists, to promote vitality, stress management, and emotional balance. The July issue of the Hotel Business Review will report on these and other advancements, and document how some hotel spas are integrating them into their operations.
