Calilo Debuts Enhanced Guest Experiences This June for 2023 Season

Family-Owned Resort on Greece’s Ios Island Announces New Suites, State-Of-The-Art Wellness Facilities and Additional Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Initiatives

USA, New York City, New York. May 16, 2023

Calilo, the ultimate luxury resort in Ios, Greece, is pleased to announce the property's seasonal opening on June 1, which will include the debut of three brand new suites, a state-of-the-art spa and wellness center and additional initiatives to support their ongoing corporate social responsibility and sustainability programs. With these new enhancements, the family-owned resort continues to elevate its offerings as a top choice for discerning travelers seeking a private and immersive getaway in Greece.

Calilo's new suites, named "Rebel Souls", "Summers Hope" and "Colourful Kindness", are designed exclusively for guests seeking the most private and indulgent accommodations in Greece. Uniquely designed by the owners Angelos Michalopoulos and Vassiliki Petridou, the new suites range from one-bedroom to three-bedrooms and offer a host of luxurious amenities, including multiple pools, including some heart-shaped pools, outdoor bathtubs, and daybeds for lounging and soaking in the panoramic views overlooking Papas Beach. Guests can also enjoy stunning marble interiors, one of a kind water features and waterfalls, and other indulgent touches throughout the spaces.

This season, Calilo will also unveil a new three-level wellness center, a dedicated space where guests can reconnect and recharge. The state-of-the-art facility will feature a gym occupying the first two floors including luxurious personal saunas, one indoor and two outdoor pools looking over Papas Beach, and expansive space for fitness classes and meditation. On the third floor, Calilo's new Spa will revolve around the naturally calming energy of water. Drawing inspiration from this ethos, the six new massage rooms will feature waterfalls to ensure a calming and cathartic experience for guests. The treatments will spotlight traditional Greek products, including honey from the property's own beehives and olive oil sourced from olive trees.

The Michalopoulos family has added several new initiatives to their corporate social responsibility program and commitment to sustainability, including a zero plastic initiative in partnership with the non-profit organization Common Sea. Their mission is to quickly and significantly reduce the amount of plastic produced and stop it from polluting rivers and seas. This year, the family has also planted an additional 30,000 trees across the island as part of the brand's Elektra Olive Tree project. The project provides new life to trees which have previously been destroyed by wildfire and land deforestation, including 550 ancient olive trees (some more than 300 yrs old) which were saved from being sold for wildfire in Athens. In 2024, the family will introduce an education program and private university on the island of Ios, called Calilo School of Hospitality and Tourism. The program will be fully funded by the family and allow students to develop skills in hospitality management, tourism, travel, gastronomy and business. The first-of-its-kind school on the island will contribute to the community by training local talent, creating jobs, offering new higher education programs and extending the seasonal tourism market.

"The continued enhancements at Calilo reflect my personal vision as an artist and my commitment as a hotelier to deliver an aesthetically unique product that respects the breathtaking traditional ways of cycladic architecture while accommodating the needs of the modern traveler," said the owner of Calilo, Angelos Michalopoulos. "Our family is proud to welcome new and returning guests with the ultimate luxury, privacy, and relaxation this summer."

Calilo, part of sustainable hospitality company LuxurIOS, is located on the picturesque island of Ios, which is known for its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters. The resort is surrounded by lush greenery and boasts breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea with multiple dining outlets, private Rock Pools and beach cabanas, and several sustainability measures including an olive tree rehabilitation project. The debut of its brand new suites and wellness center this year comes on the heels of five additional EOS Collection suites and a fine-dining restaurant, CHES, with a menu consisting of 33 dishes inspired by the 33 Cycladic islands, which opened in 2022.
