. October 14, 2008

ORLANDO, FL, November 19, 2007. Hospitality supervisors play an important role in the effective functioning of any hospitality operation. Supervisory Skill Builders, Third Edition, a nine-workbook training program from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, helps prepare new supervisors for their many responsibilities.

Topics in the nine-workbook series are:

-You as a Supervisor

-Conducting Orientation and Training

-Leadership

-Handling Problems and Conflict

-Motivation and Team Building

-Staffing and Scheduling

-Improving Employee Performance

-Effective Communication

-Time Management

The new edition features many content updates as well as fresh graphics. Based on recommendations from lodging industry experts, the program contains new leadership models that illustrate behaviors supervisors can use to meet and exceed guest and employee expectations. There is an increased emphasis on diversity and the benefits diversity brings to a supervisor's work team. Supervisors will also learn how to apply current technologies to better manager their time, team, and their property's bottom line.

The workbooks feature new scenarios that illustrate how supervisors can positively influence employee job performance by using contemporary skills, methods, and tools in the hospitality industry setting. Also, the modules include expanded activities and exercises for supervisors to practice their newly-learned skills.

Subject matter experts who assisted in the development of the revised program were John Hogan, CHE, CHA, MHS, director of education and cultural diversity, Best Western International; Judy Z. King, ISHC, founder and principal, Quality Management Services, LLC; and Steve Schuller, CPLP, vice president, training, Wyndham Worldwide and chairman, AH&LA training and education advisory council.

"In my opinion, Supervisory Skill Builders is a great tool to develop one of the most important roles in a hotel - the supervisory team," said Schuller. "The updated Supervisory Skill Builders program creates a great foundation of management skills for the next generation of leaders at the property. The new content - especially in the area of managing diverse work teams - is relevant, insightful and written in a way that engages and challenges the learner."

EI is also revising its specialized versions of Supervisory Skill Builders for restaurants, gaming, and private clubs.

The complete set of nine Supervisory Skill Builders workbooks is available for $139.95 ($109.95 for AH&LA members).
