. October 14, 2008

CARSON CITY, NV, November 19, 2007. David Peterson, senior research and analysis manager for the Nevada Commission on Tourism, was awarded Certified Public Manager designation this week, concluding a two-year course of study that prepares managers to deal with the increasingly complex and demanding governmental issues confronting Nevada.

"Nevada's entire statewide tourism industry benefits from the research and statistical information that our agency produces under David Peterson's direction, and the expanded capabilities achieved in completing this course will serve our product well," tourism Director Tim Maland said.

Peterson manages the commission's Research Department, which coordinates and administers all research surveys, databases, projects and reports, including visitor profiles and visitor travel spending. His department also assists the Marketing Department with tracking requests for printed and digital visitor information and analyzing the effectiveness of mass marketing by e-mail.

Prior to joining the state tourism agency in 2001, Peterson was northern Nevada financial analysis manager for Park Place Entertainment at Caesars Tahoe resort hotel-casino. He received a bachelor's degree in international management and Spanish from Hamline University in his native St. Paul, Minn.

The Nevada Certified Public Manager Program, offered by the state, instructs public administrators in developing leadership, current management theory and useful techniques to improve their performance as managers in the public sector.
