Cendant Steps Up Efforts to Locate and Support Employees of Fairfield Timeshare and Avis and Budget
NEW YORK, NY, September 8, 2005. Cendant Corporation announced that it is still attempting to make contact with 85 of its Fairfield Resorts, Avis and Budget colleagues who lived and worked in the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The Company continues to encourage co-workers, friends, relatives or anyone else with information concerning the whereabouts of these associates (see list below) to contact Cendant through a special toll-free hotline (866-827-2347).
"I am very pleased to report that we've made significant progress over the past week and have located nearly 460 of our employees who were in the affected areas," said Henry R. Silverman, Cendant Corporation chairman and chief executive officer. "Fortunately, we've been able to move these employees and their families into hotels, resorts and other temporary housing. Additionally, we've taken steps to ensure that all displaced employees are paid in a timely manner, and we're helping them find alternative employment within our company, thus bringing some degree of normalcy and financial stability back into their lives."
Efforts to locate employees have included a dedicated advertising and publicity campaign in the affected and surrounding areas; the distribution of informational flyers at Red Cross shelters; the placement of a large banner outside the Reliant Astrodome in Houston that promotes the Cendant employee hotline phone number (photo is available upon request); networking through fellow displaced employees; the cross-referencing of employee names with lists of evacuees; posting notices on Web sites established to help people reconnect; and the dispatch of Company managers to shelters.
