Groundbreaking for Utah Valley's First Embassy Suites

. October 14, 2008

JULY 30, 2007. Mr. John Q. Hammons and Pleasant Grove mayor Michael W. Daniels today announced the date for the groundbreaking of Utah Valley's first Embassy Suites Hotel and the adjoining 120,000-square-foot convention center.

Public officials, business leaders and honored guests will gather at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, at the site of the luxury facility to celebrate the start of construction. The public is invited to attend.

The new 13-story, 300-suite Embassy Suites Hotel(R) will feature a 40,000-square-foot grand ballroom, and the development will offer more than 120,000 combined square feet of flexible meeting and convention space.

The unique curvature of the hotel tower (12.5^0) offers panoramic views of the mountains to the east, as well as scenic Utah Lake to the west. It is anticipated that the all-suite, luxury Embassy Suites Hotel and the convention center will open in spring 2009.

'We are pleased to be breaking ground on this upscale hotel to meet the demand of the impressive growth being experienced by Utah County,' said Mr. Hammons, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts. 'The John Q. Hammons brand is known for exceeding guests' expectations. We will leverage the breath-taking mountain landscape and four-season recreation environment afforded by the area to complement the overall guest experience.'

The significant hotel and convention center development represents Mr. Hammons' entr'ee into Utah. Since announcing the project one year ago, Pleasant Grove officials have received a number of requests from developers and businesses that plan to build near the hotel and convention center, an area known as The Grove.

'More than 20 office and retail developments have started working with the city in anticipation of locating in The Grove,' said Mayor Daniels. 'Clearly, this area is living up to its reputation as Utah Valley's $350 million intersection.'

Beyond the John Q. Hammons hotel and convention center, projects currently in development for The Grove will result in 500,000 square feet of retail space and an astounding one million square feet of Class A office space. Ten of these projects anticipate breaking ground before the end of the year.
