Dealing With Mobile Device Explosion

Mobile device users have become more and more demanding in the expectation of ubiquitous coverage from their providers and especially from the hotels they stay in. Guests today rely heavily on their various mobile devices and demand hassle free fast connections throughout the hotel.
This device explosion has created a major challenge for hotels to keep up with not only on the infrastructure and in building wireless but also on bandwidth. Not only has the number of devices per guests grown but these devices are extremely data hungry. When you look at the average IPhone user consumes on average 1.5GB or more of data monthly you can easily see the impact on the hotel wireless infrastructure.
The Bandwidth Challenge
The demand on bandwidth at hotels is an ongoing and difficult challenge to contend with and one that will not go away. With the deluge of wireless only smart devices flooding the market that that have an insatiable appetite for bandwidth the challenge will continue.
While bandwidth costs have come down over the last decade this is still a substantial cost to the hotel especially when more is needed each year. Cisco has predicted that by 2015 mobile data will grow at 26x growth factor, fueled by 5.6 billion mobile devices, and two-thirds of this traffic will be video. Video will especially hit hotel networks hard because of the high-quality high bandwidth requirement to stream a video.
So how do hotels manage the bandwidth challenge?
